PRINT MAGAZINE SPREAD & DIGITAL PUbLICATION DESIGN
Diploma of Graphic Design / Class: Publishing & Media / High Distinction
As part of the DGD Publishing and Media course, we were tasked with creating a print-ready magazine spread, along with adaptive layouts for the digital design space.
By applying the principles of page architecture and typesetting, we extended our knowledge by exploring advanced solutions. An additional component was to create imagery and consider how we may use type as image, in place of photography or illustration.
I chose David Carson as my subject. As a well-recognized designer, Carson has been celebrated for nearly four decades for his approach to typography and print layout. He is best known for his layering techniques and “grunge” style. As Carson is self-taught, he is not bound by rules, keeping his approach to design experimental, personalised, and driven by his intuition.
